OET (Occupational English Test) is designed to meet the specific English language needs of the healthcare sector. It assesses listening, reading, speaking and writing skills in a language a healthcare professional will understand. Test modes include OET on Paper, OET on Computer at a test venue, and OET@Home. The test is specifically designed for 12 professions, including medicine, nursing and dentistry.

OET uses role plays to simulate healthcare environments. When you practise and take the test, you learn how to communicate with patients in a safe, controlled environment. The test reports a scaled score (from 0 to 500) and a letter grade (from E to A) for each individual sub-test. It does not report overall scores or grades. Results for OET on Computer are issued online within 10 days of the test date while OET on Paper will take 17 business days after the test.

The time duration for OET test is approximately three hours for the written tests, and 20 minutes for Speaking. If you are attending OET on paper/computer, the timeframe for each individual section is:

The length of time OET results is valid for is determined by the Regulatory Authority that governs your profession. Each country and profession has a different authority. In New Zealand for instance, the recognising authority for nurses is the Nursing Council of New Zealand and they decide the scores required to work in New Zealand and the validity of the test. In New Zealand, clubbing option of OET results is also acceptable. OET is trusted by regulators, hospitals & universities in the UK, the US, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai and Singapore as proof of ability to communicate effectively.

If you have booked OET but cannot attend the original booked test date, you can reschedule to another available date, subject to conditions and fees deduction. You can book the test via OET.com. Enter your preferred location (i.e., city and country) and click ‘Find a test’. You’ll be shown the test venue closest to you. On the results page, you can filter further by test Mode or distance. Click ‘Book now’ to go to the booking platform for your selected OET Test.
