What is IELTS?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) evaluates English proficiency for non-native speakers intending to study or work in an English-speaking country. It assesses skills in Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. There are two main forms of IELTS test: Academic and General. IELTS Academic is for study and professional registration, while IELTS General is for those migrating, working, or seeking citizenship in English-speaking countries.

IELTS test can be either computer delivered or pen and paper based. Test-takers who opt for the IELTS computer-based test take the Listening, Writing, and Reading sections on a computer, whereas the Speaking test is conducted face-to-face with an examiner. The results of Computer-based IELTS gets published in 3-5 days and paper-based version in 13 days. The result is valid for 2 years.

If you didn’t show your full potential on test day in one of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking), IELTS One Skill Retake can help you get back on track. You can choose to take IELTS One Skill Retake at any test centre where it is offered. You're eligible to book IELTS One Skill Retake after you have recently completed a full test on computer and received your IELTS test score, from an eligible test centre. You must book your IELTS One Skill Retake within 60 days of your original test date.
This is important for IELTS candidates who is not able to achieve their required individual score. For instance, if a candidate gets a band score 6.5 in Speaking and 7.0 in writing, they can now hold their Writing score of 7.0 and merely take only the Speaking test again for a better grade.
Students hesitant about retaking the full exam will now be more confident since they will be given a second chance at a particular skill.
You will receive a new Test Report Form (TRF). This includes your updated IELTS One Skill Retake score as well as the results for your other three skills in the original test. You can choose whether you use your original TRF or your new TRF.
